Harold R. Banke Justice Complex
The Justice Complex was completed in the Fall of 2000. The Clayton County Jail, and attached Courthouse, are composed of two different building methods. The jail, which is the inmate housing portion that is approximately 300,000 square feet, was constructed of pre-cast pre-formed concrete. The total building area for the Justice Complex covers more than 10 acres. The total cost of the facility was over $121,000,000, but was paid for by a Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) prior to occupation. In 2012, a new Juvenile Court building was added to the side of the Banke Complex, however it is detached from the rest of the building.
Main CourthouseThe front, and most promenent feature of the Banke Justice Complex, is the main courthouse. The entrance to the courthouse faces Tara Boulevard and is the first feature most visitors will see. This section houses the Magistrate, State, and Superior Courts. It also houses the State and Superior Clerk of Courts offices.
Clayton County Youth Development and Justice ComplexIf facing the entrance to the main courthouse, the Clayton County Youth Development and Justice Complex sits just to the left in a separate building. This building includes the Juvenile Court, research facilities, and conference rooms.
Clayton County Sheriff's OfficeBetween the main courthouse and the jail sits the Clayton County Sheriff's Office. All departments of the Sheriff's Office operate out of this facility, with the exception of the jail.
Jail ComplexThe jail complex consists of eight 192-bed housing units, eight 48-bed dormitories, and a 27-bed Infirmary. The jail facilities were designed to expand in a westerly direction by adding up to four moure housing units if future needs arise.
